You will write an itemized list by room of the things you need then you will research how much those items will cost if you purchase them. BE SURE TO LIST WHERE you are purchasing items or if they come from personal inventory - then who is contributing what.
NOTE: Items not completed in class become HOMEWORK and are due at the beginning of the class period tomorrow.
06 MAY 2015 - Wednesday
In-Class discussion: What are real costs associated with living independent?
Will you own a car or need to take the bus to get to and from places?
Remember, you will go more places than just work and home. You will need to go to the grocery store, perhaps somewhere like WalMart, and may want to have some entertainment as well.
Worksheet - 4 brief questions regarding your itemized list of things from your worksheet, asking you about costs, etc. Complete sentences are not necessary but are appreciated.
Using the WORKSHEET you did yesterday, please answer the following worksheet's questions:

Trash service deposit - if applicable
Moving truck expenses (if you don't have a family with a truck)
How are you going to get to work? Ride the bus? Own a car?
What do you eat on a regular basis? Look up the costs of a week's worth of food and project what it will cost per month to feed you. Remember, you will eventually want more complete nutrition so TopRamen every day for 3 meals a day won't work.
If you're going to go to college, work and have your own place, you will not be able to have a 2nd job because college will be your 2nd job. You will need to look online and see how much it costs to go to UNLV or CSN and figure out your monthly tuition payment, books, etc. to be able to plug that in as well.
YOUR JOB/S: Assume that since you will be just out of high school, you aren't going to be the CEO of anything because that simply doesn't happen.
You may assume you have one job that pays you $8.35/hour and that you work an average of 30 hours weekly. If you have a 2nd job, understand it will likely pay the same but you'll be capped at working 20 hours
NOTE: Items not completed in class become HOMEWORK and are due at the beginning of the class period tomorrow.
07 MAY 2015 - Thursday

You will learn how to read a lease and determine if it is a reasonable lease and something you should sign or if too many provisions have been written into the lease in the favor of the landlord, making it a one-sided relationship that acts against the tenant.
